Demolition

So we closed on our BRAND NEW home just before Thanksgiving and have already taken down two walls.  Who does that??  We had these two half walls at the bottom of the stairs and we really wanted to open it up.  I came home from the store one night and Matt was already going at it. He thought he'd use my pink hammer until it busted.  I don't think it was meant for this kind of work.

I thought I could be a part of the project by kicking down a wall for Matt.  I've been to a few Taebo classes, so why not use those skills? Let's just say it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. And the only reason I even put this first video up is for your enjoyment.  We couldn't stop laughing as we replayed it over and over.  I think I sound like my sister, Camille?  Or maybe I'm just not used to hearing my voice.

Take One...

Take two(or three)...

And here is where we are now:

The plan is to put up balusters and railings when we find some more time.  I think I'll just leave the rest to Matt from here on out.

Go Utes!

This last week, Teri(Matt's sister) and a couple friends came down to visit us!  And it just happened to be they had tickets to the Utah game too! It was pouring rain ALL day(and week really), right up until the game.  So glad it stopped.  Even though our Utes were struggling and the result wasn't in our favor, we still had fun.

Alright, look, I'm not the biggest Utah fan.. but I will cheer them on as long as they aren't playing my Cougars! :)

Oh Christmas Tree..

The Christmas tree went up quick this year and honestly, it's the only thing that makes it feel like Christmas this year.  That and singing Christmas songs at church.  We really wish we could make it back to Utah to celebrate, but it's just not going to happen between our jobs.  Speaking of which, I just started my new job this last week working as a medical assistant to an orthopaedic surgeon here in Henderson.  It's literally less than 5 minutes away from our home.  Can I just say how much I hate beginning a new job with new people and new stuff to learn?  I just want to know it already.  But apparently that's not how it works.  It really is a great place to be though and I feel lucky to work there.  I just need to push through these next few weeks.

The tree looks better in real life.  Some of the ornaments seem to disappear in the picture.  Two of them have a special meaning to me this year.. and I'm sure they will forever.

The first one I made to always remember the man who taught me how to truly be happy.  He died on Christmas Day, 2007, and I will never forget his smiling face and perfect sense of humor.
Love and miss you Lloyd!

Sorry, these pictures aren't great.  The other is our "First Christmas" ornament.  It's Santa flying a float plane in Alaska.  So we'll always remember our adventures in our first year of marriage.

Home Sweet Home

We were so lucky to close on our home the day before Thanksgiving.  So of course we had to sleep in our new home that night... keep in mind we had nothing but a couple suitcases.  We were so excited that we seemed to forget just how uncomfortable it is to "sleep" on the floor.  The next day we bought an air mattress.

I really wanted to have Thanksgiving in our new home(I tried hard to ignore the convenience of just going out).  So I went to Walmart and bought a few things:  rotisserie chicken, potatoes, corn, stuffing, and a carrot cake for dessert.  Along with a pot to cook and paper plates and utensils. Seemed I thought of everything... except a can opener.

Lucky for me, I married a guy who can solve almost anything with his box of tools.
